We discovered the bench was leaking to the floor. I anticipated being able to simply repair the bench but, as you may have guessed, there was water damage behind everything on that side of the shower. To boot, there was a hollow space behind the bench. Rather than try to reuse the pan and rebuild in kind, we decided to improve the shower by increasing its size, adding a niche, and installing a corner bench for utility. The results are striking with a stark comparison to the original, which was 15 years old.
